What is Medicaid renewal?
Renewal or recertification is the process by which Medicaid members renew their health care coverage with the NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA), their Local Department of Social Services (LDSS) or the NY State of Health (NYSOH) Marketplace.
When do I have to renew?
Every year in the same month you enrolled.
However, events such as marriage, divorce, birth of a child, change of income or loss of employment may change your renewal date.
You can only renew during these timeframes:
- HRA and LDSS - 30 to 60 days before coverage ends
- NYSOH Marketplace - 30 days before coverage ends
What if I did not receive my renewal notice?

Where do I renew?
It's important to renew the same way you enrolled:

If you enrolled with the HRA or LDSS you need to renew there and NOT with NYSOH Marketplace–unless you are told to do so.
How do I renew my Medicaid coverage?
You can renew your coverage in the following ways:
- HRA – In person or by mail
- LDSS – In person or by mail
- NYSOH Marketplace – Online, in person or by phone
What if I moved?
Medicaid mail cannot be forwarded. You must change your address at your Medicaid office, or you will not receive your Medicaid renewal notice. We can help you with this process.
Do children have to renew?
Yes. You will renew your eligibility and your child or children’s eligibility by completing one form.
I did not renew and lost my coverage. What can I do?
- You will have to reapply for Medicaid the same way you enrolled
- If you lost coverage due to a change of income you may be eligible for EmblemHealth’s Essential Plan
