We Care for our Volunteers
"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless."
- Mother Teresa
EmblemHealth understands that visiting the sick requires a special person and a special dedication. Hospital visitation is not glamorous; it can be emotionally draining. However, our volunteers say that they find the experience very rewarding and they also feel they make a difference in the lives of the patients they visit.
The Hospital Visitation Program wants to ensure that volunteers are supported in their efforts each step of the way. Consequently we have devised a multi tiered support system.
At the forefront of the support structure is Denise Thomas, the program manager. She is continuously available to address volunteers' concerns regarding patient visits. In addition, the program provides the following venues for support:
- Monthly Hospital Visitor Support Groups
- Quarterly Continuing Education Seminars
- Two Volunteer Retreat Days a Year
- Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner
- Annual Holiday Gala
It is also very common that volunteers bond with and become a source of support for each other.
