EmblemHealth Employees Give Back to the Community

Colon Cancer is scary – and preventable. During the month of March, EmblemHealth held several fundraising events to raise awareness and money for the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation. Wear Jeans on Thursday asked employees to donate money for comfort; some secretly pretended it was Friday – great moods prevailed. A delectable bake sale, then a Zumba class to work off the sweets and two fun raffles rounded out the events. All in all, a terrific time was had by all for a good cause and EmblemHealth raised nearly $16,000 dollars. Scores of people showed up on April 7, 2013, for the tenth annual Colon Cancer Challenge, among them many EmblemHealth employees. Several employees volunteered at the EmblemHealth table, supporting runners/walkers and showing that we are up for the challenge and proud to be part of the solution.

EmblemHealth Employee Honored by the NYC Family Caregiver Coalition Greg Johnson, director and creator of EmblemHealth's Care for the Family Caregiver (CFFCG) initiative, was honored at the New York City Family Caregiver Coalition's Sixth Annual Evening of Celebration of Caregiving for his work on behalf of EmblemHealth raising awareness of caregivers' challenges and for his efforts to provide much needed resources and information. Kathy J. Greenlee, Assistant Secretary for Aging, US Department of Health & Human Services, was also honored for her work advancing and promoting the health and independence of older Americans. The CFFCG initiative was created 10 years ago. Today, CFFCG continues to promote an awareness and understanding of the key role family caregivers play within the health care system in a number of important ways. Family caregivers look to CFFCG for information and insights offered via live events, caregiver outreach, facilitated discussions and social media, like Facebook.

Members and EmblemHealth Employees Meet to Celebrate Wellness Victories The second annual celebration of member health and well-being brought together more than 100 EmblemHealth members and the health coaches and case managers who work with them throughout the year. The event — billed as an annual celebration of member health and well-being — found attendees sharing both triumphs and tears for all the health-related hurdles surmounted as a result of care and support provided by the EmblemHealth employees in attendance. We applaud our dedicated health coaches and case managers who consistently make a difference in the lives of our members — and illustrate each day what care feels like.

It’s $55,000 and Counting for EmblemHealth Employee Making Strides Fundraisers In 2012, employees continued to find ways to do and give more in support of Making Strides, the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) premier event to raise awareness and dollars for the fight against breast cancer. Multifunctional fundraising efforts resulted in bigger, more creative (and much appreciated) initiatives in all our offices. The efforts included selling baked goods and items hand made and donated by employees, intranet tribute banners and raffle tickets. Employees further supported the cause by participating in walks, volunteering for lockdown in the EmblemHealth “jail” while colleagues raised money to bail them out, and more. Everyone who participated made a difference, raising more than $55,000. Contributions are still rolling in!

Employees Pitch in to Make Contributions to Japan Relief Effort The earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan was a tragedy that touched each of us here at EmblemHealth. To help, our employees gave generously to the relief effort. With matching funds—applied to all employee donations made through recognized charities—and EmblemHealth’s additional contributions, AmeriCares and UNICEF each received $25,000 for the relief effort. We applaud all of our individual employees for their financial support and were pleased to provide support to the cause as well.
