E-Prescribing by EmblemHealth Available Now!

We are pleased to announce our new, free-of-charge, electronic prescribing service for our EmblemHealth, GHI and HIP network physicians. E-prescribing (or eRx) allows you to electronically send your prescription directly to a pharmacy from your point of care. Your prescriptions are delivered in real time, accurately and legibly.

We use Surescripts®, the Nation’s E-Prescription Network, as our e-prescribing software vendor. Used every day by thousands of physicians and pharmacists throughout the country, the Surescripts network is safe and secure. It provides a seamless and reliable two-way connection between clinicians’ offices and pharmacies.

Why E-Prescribe
The e-prescribing system can improve the quality of care provided to your patients in a number of ways:

  • It provides instant access to EmblemHealth’s formulary. When you sign in to our eRx tool through www.emblemhealth.com, you will have access to EmblemHealth’s formulary. As a practitioner you can choose the medications approved by the patient’s benefit plan at the point of care.
  • It reduces errors and inaccuracies. The eRx system ensures that practitioners are providing enough information for the pharmacist to fill the prescription, including the name of the drug, the dosage, its physical form, the route and any special instructions. It eliminates the pharmacy’s challenge of trying to understand a handwritten prescription, and thus the chance of interpretation errors.
  • It is convenient to patients. Practitioners can electronically route the prescription to the patient’s choice of pharmacy. Also, when the patient runs out of refills, the pharmacist can electronically send a renewal request to the physician’s office for approval, reducing the patient’s wait time.

Please e-mail us if you have any questions regarding our e-prescribing tool.
