Selling EmblemHealth

Application Process

We invite health insurance brokers statewide to apply to become affiliated brokers with EmblemHealth. By doing so, you will be able to offer a full range of plans to your clients.

EmblemHealth-branded plans (excluding CompreHealth) are underwritten by our company GHI (Group Health Incorporated). HIP-branded plans and CompreHealth are underwritten by our companies HIP (HIP Health Plan of New York) or HIPIC (HIP Insurance Company of New York). As such, you will note during the application process that the documents you complete reference our underwriting companies.

Here’s how the process works:

  1. Complete both pages of the Selling Agent Appointment Application.

You can complete this application to apply to become a broker for all of EmblemHealth’s underwriting companies.

    • If you are unaffiliated with any of EmblemHealth's underwriting companies, we encourage you to check the "All" box on the application, rather than each individual boxes.
    • If you are currently affiliated with one or more of EmblemHealth's underwriting companies, please check the box(es) for the remaining companies for which you wish to be appointed.
    • If you only want to be affiliated with the underwriting company whose plans are sold in Western New York, check off the “GHI” box. (The Western New York counties include, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming.)
  2. Complete and sign two copies of the Selling Agent Agreement.

You must complete the agreements specific to the companies whose plans you’d like to sell. A fully executed copy will be returned to you.

    EmblemHealth-branded Plans

    HIP-branded Plans (including CompreHealth)

  3. Attach your current appropriate broker license(s). If you are applying as a corporation, include both parts of the corporate license.

If you indicate on your Application that you wish to be appointed to sell GHI –underwritten plans, please attach documentation that you hold the following licenses:

Broker licenses issued under section 2104 of the insurance law are accepted for appointment.

Agent licenses issued under section 2103(a) of the insurance law that stipulate Accident and Health accreditation are accepted for appointment.

Agent licenses issued under section 2103(b) of the insurance law that do not stipulate Accident and Health accreditation are not accepted for appointment.

Agent licenses under section 2103(b) of the insurance law are Property & Casualty licenses, and consequently are not accepted for appointment.
