Update to Renewal and New Business Commissions
Previously, we announced changes to our underwriting guidelines and selling agent commission schedule that would take effect on or after May 1, 2013. These changes are in preparation for continuing changes in the health care industry.
Since this notification, we have received feedback from our selling partners. We listened carefully to your concerns and have made the following changes:
- All selling agents for existing group accounts will be compensated at 3% commission for all GHI, HIP and HIPIC-underwritten products through renewal. (This excludes EmblemHealth Dental, which will continue to be compensated at 10% commission.)
- All selling agents for new group accounts will be compensated with a commission rate based on the product, as listed in the 2013 EmblemHealth Selling Agent Commission Schedule (effective May 1, 2013 for GHI-underwritten products and June 1, 2013 for HIP and HIPIC-underwritten products).
- Effective January 1, 2014, EmblemHealth will be adjusting its product portfolio for changes necessitated by health care reform. At that time, selling agents will be compensated with a commission rate based on the products then available, as will be listed in the 2014 EmblemHealth Selling Agent Commission Schedule.
