On June 6 EmblemHealth joined LaborPress, a news information and advocacy resource for the labor movement, in hosting the first annual Heroes of Labor Awards at EmblemHealth headquarters.
The event honored the great labor heroes of New York City for their remarkable contributions to community service, which included advocating for access to decent working conditions, wages, medical care and pensions; giving a voice to children and minorities; and even saving lives. Fittingly, the honorees received a standing ovation for their inspiring stories of activism in the community.
Raglan George Jr., Executive Director, District Council 1707, AFSCME, presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Lillian Roberts, who is the four-term Executive Director of District Council 37, AFSCME; Vice President of the New York State AFL-CIO; Vice President of the NYC Central Labor Council; and the Co-Chair of the Municipal Labor Committee. She was named by the Network Journal as one of the 25 most influential black women in business.
The Heroes of Labor Awards reflect our long standing commitment to the health and well-being of New York's working men and women. For more about the awards, including the nominees, please visit our Web site.
