Take Charge – Schedule Your Annual Checkup Today!

Date Issued: 4/7/2016

When you take charge of your health, you are sure to add spring to your step. If you haven’t done so already, schedule an annual checkup for you and your family members today.

Regular checkups are important at all ages. They are the best way to get the health care advice and services you may need. If you’re only going to the doctor when you are sick, there isn’t time for your doctor to focus on other health care issues that may need to be addressed.

During an annual checkup, your doctor may:

  • Measure height and weight
  • Check blood pressure
  • Test cholesterol
  • Screen for depression, skin cancer and hepatitis B
  • Help with quitting smoking or using tobacco
  • Test your blood if you use certain medications
  • Write prescriptions for needed medications

  • Measure height and weight to check growth
  • Give needed vaccinations (shots)
  • Counsel for nutrition and physical activity
  • Counsel teenagers for alcohol, drug, tobacco use and risky behaviors
  • Screen for depression
  • Write prescriptions for needed medications

*If you are living with a chronic condition such as diabetes, asthma or heart disease, talk to your doctor about additional screenings you may need.
