How to use your acupuncture benefit

Acupuncture can help the body heal naturally. It is the process of inserting needles or applying heat or electrical stimulation to specific parts of the body to help the healing process.

It can be added to treatment you are already following. Or, it can be used in place of treatment for pain related to many types of conditions.

We’ve partnered with American Speciality Health (ASH) to bring this benefit to you.

To use your acupuncture benefit:

  • Call ASH Customer Service at 800-678-9133 (TTY: 711). Their hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday.
  • Ask for an acupuncturist located near you.
  • Call the acupuncturist directly to schedule your appointment.
  • Bring your EmblemHealth member ID card with you to the appointment.
  • Pay your applicable copay at the end of your session. (A copay is the set dollar amount you pay for health services each time you use them.)

The following plans include an acupuncture benefit:

  • EmblemHealth’s individual HMO plans on and off the New York State of Health Marketplace

    • EmblemHealth Silver Value
    • EmblemHealth Silver Value D
    • Maximum number of visits per year: 12
    • Copay per visit: $0
  • EmblemHealth’s small business HMO plans
    • Platinum Level
      • Platinum Premier
      • Platinum Choice
    • Gold Level
      • Gold Premier
      • Gold Premier 1
      • Gold Plus
      • Gold Plus 1
      • Gold Choice
      • Gold Value
    • Silver Level
      • Silver Premier
      • Silver Premier 1
      • Silver Plus
      • Silver Plus 1
      • Silver Choice
      • Silver Value
    • Bronze Level
      • Bronze Value
    • Maximum number of visits per year: 12
    • Copay per visit: $0
  • EmblemHealth’s large group plans
    • EmblemHealth HMO Plus
    • EmblemHealth EPO Value
    • Maximum number of visits per year: 20
    • Copay per visit: $20

If your large group plan is not listed above, check your Certificate of Insurance to see if your plan has added the acupuncture benefit.

Or, call the EmblemHealth Customer Service number on the back of your member ID card. A Customer Service representative will be happy to help. They can confirm your coverage, including your copay and yearly number of visits.

Save up to 25 percent even if you’re not covered for acupuncture.

If you are an EmblemHealth member but are not covered for acupuncture in your current plan, you can still save up to 25 percent on this benefit.

Call ASH at 877-327-2746 (TTY: 711). Provide your member ID number, and they’ll help you find discounts and an acupuncturist.
