Postpartum Contraception - Before you leave the hospital
Starting a family or adding to your current one is a big decision. Family planning is all about deciding when the best time is for you to have a baby. By spacing out pregnancies, you can take better care of yourself and your children.
Did you know you can receive birth control in the hospital immediately after you deliver your baby?
You can now have IUDs or contraceptive implants right after childbirth. IUDs and contraceptive implants are:
- 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy.
- Easy to remove at any time.
Some forms of birth control can interfere with breastfeeding, so plan ahead and discuss all forms of birth control with your doctor or midwife during your pregnancy.
