Low Birth-Weight Babies Now Covered

Date Issued: 6/25/2012

Infants weighing less than 1,200 grams at birth, or who are disabled and under 6 months of age, have begun receiving health benefit coverage through our Medicaid managed care plan as of April 1, 2012. Prior to this date, these infants were excluded from managed care and received their benefits from Medicaid Fee-for-Service.

We have a neonatal case management program to help low birth-weight babies and infants with disabilities at birth get all necessary care and support, and to ensure that discharge treatment plans meet the needs of both the child and the family. For information about the program, please call 1-800-447-0768. If a newborn meets the criteria for disability, our nurse case managers will work with medical staff to complete required disability forms.

In addition, we offer the Healthy Beginnings Pregnancy Program program for high-risk pregnancies to help prevent low birth-weight and infant disabilities through effective prenatal care. To enroll a pregnant member, please call 1-888-447-0337.
