Important changes for your health coverage

As a City of New York member, we want to let you know about some important changes related to your health coverage starting July 1, 2020. The City of New York Office of Labor Relations and city’s unions, represented by the Municipal Labor Committee, approved these plan changes.

Among other changes, members in the HIP HMO Preferred, GHI CBP, HIP Prime POS, GHI HMO, and Vytra plans will have:

Expanded IVF coverage

If you or your covered family member is interested in starting or expanding your family, EmblemHealth will cover in-vitro fertilization (IVF) prescription drugs. New York State law now requires coverage for three cycles of IVF per lifetime, prescription drugs in connection with IVF services, and fertility preservation services.*

The new law is intended to ensure that you have the right to choose and receive safe, affordable reproductive health care. Learn more about the new law, including eligibility and coverage details.

*Fertility preservation services are only covered for iatrogenic infertility, which is an impairment of fertility by surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, or other medical treatment affecting reproductive organs or processes. Learn more in the “Fertility Preservation Coverage – Covered Services” section of the DFS website.

No-cost HIV prevention and treatment

EmblemHealth will cover the cost of health care services and medicines for the detection and prevention of HIV, including screenings and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). PrEP is a way to prevent HIV infection by taking a pill every day. This means there will be no cost-sharing in-network for these health care services or HIV prevention medicine.
