Does Your Office Have a
Flu Immunization Champion?
Be ready early this flu season.
Flu seasons are unpredictable. Flu epidemics occur every year, however the timing, severity and length of the season varies from one year to the next.
As a physician, you know how important it is for your patients to receive a seasonal flu vaccination. Please recommend a flu vaccination to all the patients you see during the typical influenza season.
But what about the patients you don't see?
Many physician offices have some type of express vaccination services to accommodate large numbers of patients. If you havenít adopted this strategy, try one of the following:
Weekend or evening vaccine clinics
Open access vaccine scheduling during office hours
Dedicated influenza vaccination station
Don't forget to let all your patients know when convenient vaccination services are available in your office.
This year, motivate your entire office staff to get involved in your vaccination program. Select someone as the Office Immunization Champion to foster motivation and track progress. Set a goal for vaccinations that is 20 to 25 percent higher than it was last year. Have your Champion track your progress and share the results with everyone — even your patients.
If you would like to share the success of your influenza immunization program with us, send us the details of methods used to increase immunization rates and how much of an increase you realized. With your permission, we will share your success with other physician offices. Send an e-mail with your success story to email@example.com.
Current guidelines call for immunization of everyone 6 months of age and older. Please review the vaccination status of all patients who come into your office regardless of the reason for the visit. For patients who are reluctant to be immunized, please take the time to discuss the benefits and safety of the vaccine.
