Ensure Only Authorized Users Can View Minimally Necessary Protected Information

Thank you for caring for our members.

 

As an assigned provider portal Administrator/Office Manager or Practice Maintenance User, you have direct control over who can use our provider portal and who can see your patients’ protected health information (PHI).

 

To support HIPAA compliance, we ask that you review the User Management section of our provider portal (found under the More menu option in the top right corner of the screen). Here, you can:

  • Deactivate providers and staff who are no longer with your organization.
  • Confirm users are assigned to the correct roles and providers to ensure they can only view information that meets HIPAA’s minimum necessary standards.
  • Create accounts for those who are still using the phone and fax as part of their workflows.

Recent Portal Updates

We have implemented:

  • More Preauthorization Request Simplifications including enhancement of over 100 additional surgical, sleep study, and durable medical equipment preauthorization request templates.
  • Faster Delivery of Utilization Review Letters, beginning with the delivery of EmblemHealth’s New York commercial members’ determination letters for preauthorization requests, and initial and continued stay concurrent reviews (determination letters) through the provider portal. Additional letters will be added to the portal as explained in this notice.

Please share these updates with your authorized portal users and add new users who can take advantage of these changes.

What Should You Do If You Are Not the Administrator/Office Manager Or Practice Maintenance User?

If you are not the right person to manage portal users, you can easily set up someone else to replace you in this role. The new Administrator/Office Manager or Practice Maintenance User can then update your permissions to the correct role.
