In accordance with Medicare coverage guidelines (Medical Policy Article A52419), ocular blood flow testing is not considered medically necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of an illness, injury or malformed body part.
The principal use of these tests has been for physiological and interventional investigation, rather than for ongoing clinical patient care. It has not yet assumed a role as the standard of care for the diagnosis or treatment of patients, and therefore, currently there are no Medicare reimbursable indications for this service.
Testing reported with CPT code 0198T (Measurement of ocular blood flow by repetitive intraocular pressure sampling, with interpretation and report) and/or CPT code 92499 (when used to report ocular flow measurement by other technique) will be denied as a non-covered service.
