Occupational Health Clinic Joins EmblemHealth
EmblemHealth has assumed responsibility for management of a New York State Department of Health contract for The Occupational & Environmental Health Center of Eastern New York (OEHC).
OEHC is one of eleven occupational health clinics statewide that form the New York State Occupational Health Clinic Network. OEHC is a community-based program specializing in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of occupational diseases and injuries. Providing state-of-the-art occupational health services in northeastern New York, OEHC strives to be a "center of excellence" helping workers, employers, unions and health professionals deal with occupational and environmental health issues.
Consider an occupational medicine referral if you have a patients with a suspected work-related medical problem such as:
- Lung disease
- Musculoskeletal disorders
- Dermatological/skin disorders
- Noise-induced hearing loss
- Indoor air-related illness
- Lead / heavy metal poisonings
Many of these cases involve complicated Workers’ Compensation issues. OEHC specializes in occupational medicine, and is part of a statewide network of occupational health clinics established by the NYS Legislature in 1987. OEHC does not take the place of the primary physician; the clinic only evaluates/treats the patient for the referred occupational problem. If the OEHC physician believes the problem is work-related, they will provide the medical documentation necessary to begin a Workers’ Compensation claim, and will handle the case until it is resolved.
OEHC is considered a participating provider in most insurance plans. The clinic has a full service staff, including physicians who are board-certified/eligible in occupational medicine, a certified industrial hygienist who can evaluate the workplace, certified occupational health nurses and a clinical nurse/social worker.
