NEW YORK, NY – As families across New York prepare for the start of the Holidays, EmblemHealth, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health insurers, hosted community events across Brooklyn and Queens—donating food and other resources to residents and community members.
“We know that food insecurity concerns rise during the holiday season,” said Beth Leonard, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer “Providing communities with healthy resources should go beyond this time of year. After everything we have overcome as a city, now is the time recommit ourselves to helping one another and building back a healthy strong New York City.”
The holiday events were part of an ‘Healthier for the Holidays’ series organized by EmblemHealth and held in partnership with The Campaign Against Hunger. EmblemHealth joined local elected officials and community groups to distribute food, toys, school supplies, and healthy resources during each event.
Participating elected officials included Councilmember/ Brook Borough President-Elect Antonio Reynoso, State Senator Zellnor Myrie, Assembly Members Latrice Walker, Diana Richardson, and Councilmembers-Elect Crystal Hudson and Rita Joseph.
In total EmblemHealth gave away:
- 3,300 family meals which included options of turkeys, hams, or roaster chickens fresh produce, and other dinner items.
