EmblemHealth Leaders Are Named to Crain’s Annual Most Notable in Health Care List

07/12/2021

NEW YORK – EmblemHealth, one of the nation's largest non-profit health insurers, announced today that its President and CEO, Karen Ignagni, and Chief People Officer Donna Hughes have been named to Crain's New York Business’ 2021 Notable in Health Care list. Ignagni and Hughes were recognized by Crain’s for their exemplary leadership, innovation and compassion throughout their careers, and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In its recognition of Ignagni, Crain’s highlights her efforts to prioritize health and safety while also adapting to the rigorous demands of the COVID-19 pandemic when it first reached New York.  Ignagni partnered with unions and government to bring testing and vaccination sites to underserved communities throughout New York City; expanded virtual care options; and increased access to local resources, like food, care packages, and school supplies, with a focus on social determinants of health during a time when it was most critical.

“It is an honor to be listed among this distinguished group of health care leaders, heroes and advocates,” said Karen Ignagni, President and CEO, EmblemHealth. “Our team appreciates being recognized for our ongoing commitment to create healthier futures by providing accessible, equitable, and affordable health care to the communities we serve.”

Donna Hughes, who leads EmblemHealth’s Human Resources department, drove various groundbreaking initiatives to enhance culture and elevate employee experiences, affirm the company’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the workplace and in service to our customers and communities, and to foster a greater sense of well-being, inclusive leadership, and belonging among EmblemHealth’s 4,500 staff members.

“I am honored to have been entrusted by Karen to lead an amazing team through challenging times, requiring us to stretch and grow in different ways,” said Donna Hughes, Chief People Officer, EmblemHealth. “It’s an incredible feeling to be recognized among such a stellar group of health care champions.”

EmblemHealth is honored to have leaders like Karen and Donna included in this year’s list. EmblemHealth’s family of companies also congratulates their “Super Seven” for their recent recognition and participation in New York City’s Hometown Heroes Parade, and to all of EmblemHealth’s  previous 2021 award recipients.
