Doula Services Benefit FAQs

A doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, educational, and nonmedical support to individuals before, during, and after childbirth or at the end of a pregnancy. Doulas can help you:

  • Create a birth plan and offer ongoing support during pregnancy, and labor.
  • Get valuable information on pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenting.
  • Communicate with health care professionals.
  • Connect with community-based resources for childbirth and parenting.

You are eligible for doula services during and after your pregnancy. The 12 months after your pregnancy ends is referred to as the post-partum period. You can:

  • Meet with a doula up to eight times total, during and after your pregnancy. This is regardless of how your pregnancy ends.
  • Use your visits up to 12 months after your pregnancy ends.

If you become pregnant within the 12 months after a pregnancy, your eligibility for doula services will reset, and any unused doula services from the prior pregnancy will not carry over.

You can find a list of participating doulas here. Your doula may provide in-person support in your home or in an office location near you. Please confirm that your doula participates in your network and plan and check if they have any travel limitations.

You can also join our Healthy Futures Program which provides resources and important health information so you feel supported through your pregnancy. You or your doula can enroll at any time during your family planning journey.
