Most people can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan when they first become eligible for Medicare. Your Initial Enrollment Period begins three months before the month you turn 65 and continues for three months after. If you’re already receiving Social Security or disability benefits, you may be enrolled in Medicare automatically.

Yes. Open Enrollment, which runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 each year, is the time when most people with Medicare can review their coverage and switch Medicare Advantage plans. New coverage begins Jan. 1. In some situations, you may also qualify to make plan changes at other times during the year.
