NEW YORK, NY (October 6, 2017) — Yesterday, EmblemHealth and LaborPress celebrated the 6th Annual Heroes of Labor Awards, honoring leaders from five of New York’s unions who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in supporting their members.
Hundreds of guests attended the event hosted by EmblemHealth, one of the nation’s largest non-profit health plans with an 80-year legacy of serving hardworking New Yorkers, and LaborPress, the largest labor news network in New York.
“These powerful stories demonstrate how unions provide a pathway to the middle class for working families, which is what happened in my own family,” said EmblemHealth President and CEO Karen Ignagni. “EmblemHealth is proud to honor the men and women who are making this possible for families today.”
The 2017 honorees included:
Sean T. Campbell – President, Teamsters Local 813
James Conigliaro, Jr. – President, Independent Driver’s Guild IAMAW
Kathleen Culhane – Executive Vice President, Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW)
Daniel J. Kane, Jr. – President, Teamsters Local No. 202
James W. Cahill, President, New York State Building & Construction Trades Council (NYS AFL-CIO), was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, for his decades of service protecting the rights of New York State’s construction workforce.
“The Heroes of Labor Awards highlight the extraordinary contributions made by working men and women,” said LaborPress Publisher Neal Tepel. “Their actions illustrate the dedication of our union leadership and members, many of whom often go above and beyond the call of duty."
Guests were welcomed by Mr. Tepel, with opening remarks from EmblemHealth President and CEO Karen Ignagni. New York Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon also offered greetings, before turning the event over to the master of ceremonies, Building & Construction Trades Council President Gary LaBarbera.
