NEW YORK, NY (October 3, 2018) — To recognize the outstanding contributions of New York’s union members, EmblemHealth and LaborPress honored representatives from five of New York’s unions who demonstrated a long-standing dedication to the city and their work.
The 7th Annual Heroes of Labor Award ceremony recognizes the vital role of union workers in New York City. EmblemHealth, of the nation’s largest non-profit health plans with an 80-year legacy of serving hardworking New Yorkers, and LaborPress, the largest labor news network in New York, share a commitment to honoring and celebrating these unsung heroes and their efforts to protect and strengthen the city on behalf of millions.

The 2018 honorees included:
Darrick Dahkim Gatling – Transport Workers Union (TWU), Local 100
Michael Hellstrom – Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), Local 108
Erin Schneider – International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), Local 831
Jean Souffrant – Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association (COBA)
Captain John Farima of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, after serving six years as Captains Representative on the board and with the department for more than 30 years.
