New York, NY - EmblemHealth, one of the largest nonprofit health insurers in the U.S., is dedicated to promoting community health equity. In October, the company's Community Engagement team participated in 28 events across New York's five boroughs to raise awareness about health care. The events were diverse and catered to different cultures, focusing on Breast Cancer Awareness, providing baby supplies, health education for Spanish-speaking New Yorkers, and organizing Halloween celebrations.
“This institution believes in empowering people by providing them with resources and information to make informed decisions, which leads to improved outcomes,” stated Ann Marie Adamson-Serieux, Assistant Vice President, Community Engagement. She added, “It gives me immense pride to be a part of an organization that not only upholds this belief but also follows through with their commitment.”
EmblemHealth hosted a series of events called ¡Un Futuro Saludable en NY! to provide resources, health education, and screenings to Spanish-speaking residents of New York. Through community events, the company addresses the health needs of the 2.5 million Latino residents who make up 29% of the city’s population. The event series partnered with the consulates of Colombia, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic, as well as over 20 Hispanic communities and religious organizations.
EmblemHealth partnered with the New York City Police Department Community Affairs Bureau to organize a series of Community Baby Showers in all five boroughs. The baby showers provided expecting mothers and with various gifts to welcome a baby into the family including diapers, onesies, tablets, car seats, and more. In addition, the baby showers offered free food, resources, and even manicures. The events took place at various locations, such as Gregorio Luperon High School for Mathematics and Science in Manhattan, Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, La Central YMCA in the Bronx, St. Bartholomew Parish Roman Catholic Church in Queens, and the Staten Island Broadway YMCA.
The team was delighted to partner with elected officials to inform New York City. EmblemHealth collaborated with Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke to educate seniors about their rights. We celebrated events such as Diwali with the Mayor’s office and Halloween with a pumpkin carving event with Assemblymember Manny De Los Santos.
