My grandmother was the heart and soul of our family, our very own monarch. A big family that lived on a single, dead-end street. Our queen faced breast cancer three times.

The final time, she suffered in silence, not letting any of us know the reality of her struggle. When she passed, our family dynamic was forever changed. I was only 13, yet I knew even then that it didn’t have to be that way. I didn’t know what the future would hold, but I knew that I wanted to do something that helped people live longer, healthier lives for themselves and for their families.

 

I joined EmblemHealth because I believe in our mission and dedication to taking care of our members. Last year, we were ranked among the top four health plans1 with the largest percentage of growth in Medicare Advantage—double the growth of any other New York-based health plan. We believe this is because we are dedicated to transforming our company and improving the experience of our members. And as a not-for-profit, we have the unique ability to reinvest in members’ health.

 

This year, I’m excited to introduce new product improvements and experiences to help our members. Health care is critical, and understanding and using your benefits should be easy. So, we’re introducing EmblemHealth’s Medicare Connect Concierge, a concierge customer service program. With one phone number—yes, just one—members can schedule a doctor’s appointment, get a referral, coordinate a prior authorization approval, check the balance of their Over The Counter (OTC) Drug Card, arrange Medicaid-covered transportation, and so much more.

 

The second major enhancement is a new digital wellness rewards program*: a program designed for health and wellness needs. From preventive care to managing chronic diseases, this new program will help members get the resources and support they need, and reward them for getting preventive services like flu shots, annual check-ups, and screenings.

 

Today, I still believe that if my grandmother had the support, education and services she needed, her reign of our family would have been measured in many more decades.
