Exercise is important for your overall health and wellness. It can help you:

1.    Control your weight.

2.    Reduce your risk of developing certain diseases.

3.    Strengthen your bones and muscles.

4.    Improve your mood.

5.    Stay social.

6.    Sleep more soundly.

Think exercise isn’t for you?

We bet you can find something you enjoy! There are lots of ways to work in physical activity. Walking, dancing, yoga, water aerobics, bicycling, riding a stationary bike, and even chair exercises can help you strengthen and tone your muscles.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends regular physical activity to help improve your overall health, fitness, and quality of life. It can also help reduce your risk of chronic conditions like Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, many types of cancer, depression and anxiety, and dementia. Check with your doctor before starting any exercise routine.

Fitness on the go!

Many Medicare plans include SilverSneakers® as a wellness benefit. SilverSneakers offers classes designed for all fitness levels and abilities. You can download the SilverSneakers GO™ from the the iTunes App store or the Google Play store. The app lets you find SilverSneakers locations, access fitness programs, make exercises easier or harder to match your level of fitness, and more. Check your plan documents for more information.

How much exercise is enough?

Here are some general guidelines you can follow. But you should always ask your doctor about the type and amount of physical activity that’s right for you, especially before you try a new exercise routine. Your doctor can also recommend ways to start exercising or get more out of the workouts you’re doing.
